Thousands of homeowners already harvest rainwater by connecting a water butt to their gutter’s downpipe . The rainwater that is captured is naturally clean, soft with a near neutral PH content, not to mention free from the chemical treatments found in mains tap water. Plants love it.
Water Butts really need to be sited adjacent to a gutter downpipe in an area accessible to the garden. A full watering can is heavy so you will not want to carry it far !
KingspanWater’s Raintrap is simply an evolution of the Water Butt – but instead of being above ground, the much larger tank is buried below ground. An electric pump allows the water to be fed by hose exactly where needed in the garden or car washing.
The tank is gravity fed from a gutter pipe and so long as the inlet pipe has a suitable fall (allowing water to flow), the tank can be located as desired within the garden.
An Integrated System is the next step on from the garden raintrap, supplying harvested rainwater to flush toilets and other non-potable applications within the home. The system is made of series of components that are installed both externally below ground and within the building itself - linking into the homes plumbing system.
The biggest component is the storage tank and (depending on system selected) a header tank that sits in a loft space.
Like the raintrap, the rainwater storage tanks have their own integral pump and depend on a natural gravity flow from the roof gutters & downpipes. So long as these requirements are met, the tank can be located virtually anywhere.
